Longleaf Commitment Grant
Description
The Longleaf Commitment is a grant program for 2021 North Carolina high school graduates who will attend one of our state's 58 community colleges starting in the Fall 2021 semester. High school students may be eligible to receive this grant - not a loan - for tuition and fees toward an associate degree or to attain transfer credit. Full-time eligible students are guaranteed to receive $700 to $2,800 per year, for a total of two years. Less than full-time students may receive a partial award. The Longleaf Commitment Grant Program ends at the conclusion of the 2023 spring semester.
Eligibility
- Graduate from a North Carolina high school in 2021
- Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes
- Be a first-time college student (Career & College Promise (CCP) and Early/Middle College High School students are eligible)
- Enroll in a curriculum program during the 2021-2022 academic year and 2022-2023 academic years.
- Enroll in at least 6 credit hours per semester
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 (when it becomes available October 1, 2022)
- Have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from $0 - $15,000. ("EFC" is based upon student's FAFSA determination)
- Meet the Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements
Application Requirements
- Applicants need to apply for admission to Central Community College and complete residency determination through the North Carolina Residency Determination Service (RDS).
- Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Other Information
Consideration for funding is automatic once the FAFSA is filed. Eligible students will be notified of grant awards by the Financial Aid Office.
The grant is available to 2021 high school graduates (one cohort) attending a NC Community College, beginning in the fall of 2021 and during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 academic years. The grant will end after the Spring 2023 semester.
Eligible full-time (12+ credits) students will receive a minimum grant of $700 to $2,800 per year for two years. Award amounts will adjust based on how many credits a student is enrolled in during a semester. For example, the minimum and maximum grants for students enrolled half-time (6 credits) is $350 and $1,400 per year.
