Nationally known sustainable farmer speaks at 推荐正规买球平台-Chatham

Joel Salatin (center left), nationally known sustainable farmer and agricultural writer, and members of the public tour the Student Farm at Central Carolina Community College�s Chatham County Campus under the guidance of Robin Kohanowich (center, right), the college�s Sustainable Agriculture Programs coordinator. The June 30 tour preceded Salatin�s presentation at the college in which he shared his passion for and experience with sustainable farming. About 400 people came to hear him speak. Salatin's Polyface Farms, in Virginia�s Shenandoah Valley, is a working example of the potential for local food production and distribution to help solve the challenges of biosecurity, food-borne pathogens, energy, and humane husbandry. In his presentation, �Local Food to the Rescue,� Salatin spoke of his family�s use of environmentally enhancing farming practices and the importance and benefits of incorporating sustainable farming practices throughout the world. The college�s Natural Chef and Sustainable Agriculture programs, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund Commission sponsored his appearance.
